Our climate goals

As a shopping mall in the heart of Upper Austria, we recognise our responsibility towards people, the region and the environment and act accordingly – both for the present and on behalf of future generations. This is why max.center  has long been consistently committed to achieving energy efficiency, being proactive in climate protection, using alternative energy sources and sustainable transport. Our mall operator, SES Spar European Shopping Centers, has set explicit climate goals to this end that are to be achieved by 2050 at the latest.

88% less carbon emissions

100% green electricity

46% savings in energy costs

Up to 5% of them come to shop in our mall using public transport, on foot or by bike.

Sustainable transport links

Energy management – planned systematically

The max.center has been working with an ISO-certified energy management system since 2019, which was recertified by TÜV AUSTRIA in 2022. This means that we continuously analyze our energy consumption and implement measures to save energy and increase energy efficiency. As a result, energy consumption in our center has already been reduced by up to around 40% over the past 4 years.

Free cooling and optimised cooling

Cooling groundwater

At max.center, cooling requirements are met by using the cold ground water from underneath the building. The water is collected in wells, pumped up to the cooling registers in the ventilation system and then returned in its entirety through soakaways. When needed, the night air is used to cool the shopping mall outside opening hours (free cooling). All ventilation systems include technical equipment for heat recovery.

LED lighting

Energy-saving lighting

Retrofitting saves electricity and money. Saving energy means protecting the climate. At max.center, this has long included concrete measures such as successive retrofitting of all lighting on the façades and the interior with energy-saving LED technology.

OPTIMISING DEMAND-CONTROLLED VENTILATION
Cheap Air

Actions speak louder than words! One concrete example of climate-friendly operation is controlled ventilation that adapts to the number of visitors in the mall. It was developed by SES and adjusts air quality in the mall perfectly to actual requirements, achieving annual savings of around 2.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

Energy generation

Clean energy and climate protection are a top priority for us. That’s why we set store by renewables. As every SES shopping mall is the only one of its kind, it can be designed to take individual local conditions into account to the greatest possible extent. 100% of the electricity max.center purchases is green electricity.

People and society

Helping where there’s a need. We assume social responsibility, whether this is through long-term cooperation with clubs and associations in the region or through various charity campaigns.
